RICHARD P. McLAUGHLIN
- Richard P. McLaughlin, senior partner, co-founded the predecessor
firm McLaughlin and McNally in 1970. His practice generally focuses
on business law and litigation, construction law, family business
succession planning, estate planning and probate.

- McLaughlin was born in Youngstown, Ohio, the youngest of
10 children. He attended local parochial schools and, after two
years in the Army during the Korean War, graduated from Youngstown
State University with honors in 1958. He received his law degree
from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., in 1962 and his
Master of Laws from Georgetown in 1964.

- McLaughlin practiced business law and government regulatory
law in Washington until 1968 when he received Presidential Appointment
as General Counsel of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation
Service. He returned home in late 1969 to become a candidate
for the United States Congress, both in 1970 and 1972, although
he was not a successful politician. He subsequently co-founded
the predecessor firm to McLaughlin and McNally in June 1970.

- Community activities and charitable work have always been
a major part of McLaughlin's life. For example, he has served
his Alma Mater, Youngstown State University, as a member of the
University's Board of Trustees for 9 years, including two years
as Chair and two years as Vice-Chair. He gives or has given his
time to the following activities:

- Catholic Television Network of
Youngstown, as Co-Founder and Chairman for 7 years;
- Assumption Nursing Home corporation, as a Member of the Board
of Trustees for 17 years and Chairman for 7 of those years;
- Currently serves on the YMCA Board of Trustees and was formerly
Chair of the Membership Campaign;
- Currently serves the Investment Committee for the Millcreek
Children's Center, a private non-profit charter school serving
inner-city youth, as Chairman;
- Epilepsy Foundation, Mahoning Valley Chapter, founder and
Chair;
- Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, as a member of the Board of
Trustees for 6 years; and
- Youngstown Playhouse, as a member of the Board for 4 years;
he was also Chair of the annual fund-raising effort of the Playhouse
campaign.
- Attorney McLaughlin has been married to his wife, Betty,
for 39 years. She is the senior drug and alcohol counselor at
the Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic in Youngstown. Together they
have four children: Kelly Gruscinski, a graduate social worker,
who is married to Tom Gruscinski, an attorney in Cleveland Ohio.
Son Richard lives with his Parisian wife in Paris, France, where
he is a project engineer with the Microsoft Corporation. Son
Christopher is the Administrator of a 200-bed nursing home and
assisted living complex in the greater Youngstown area. Daughter
Molly is finishing her Masters Degree in counseling at YSU. Her
husband is an electrical contractor. In all, there are 11 kids
to call Dick McLaughlin "Grandpa."
